Marbled Hatchetfish

Marbled Hatchetfish are just a REALLY cool little fish! Between their unique body shape, marbled pattern, and the fact that they spend most of their time right at the top of the tank, there's really nothing else quite like them.

These guys are peaceful but can be a little shy, so we recommend keeping them in a group of at least 5 or more. Keeping them with other peaceful fish and giving them plenty of plants and cover can help them feel more comfortable.

One of our favorite things about Hatchetfish is where they hang out in the tank. A lot of community fish spend their time in the middle or near the bottom, but these guys stay right up near the surface. If you feel like the top of your tank is always empty, these are definitely a fun fish to check out!

They naturally come from softer water with lots of tannins, so things like Indian Almond Leaves, driftwood, and other botanicals are great additions to their setup!

One BIG thing to know before getting Hatchetfish: these guys can JUMP! We definitely recommend a secure lid, and make sure you don't have any big gaps around filters, airline tubing, or other equipment.

Please Note: All fish shipments have a 100% Live Arrival Guarantee when shipping with our Overnight (1 Day) option. All other options void our Live Arrival Guarantee for fish.

Feeding Marbled Hatchetfish

They aren't too complicated when it comes to food. They'll eat a variety of frozen and prepared foods. Since they spend most of their time right at the surface, just make sure some of their food stays toward the top long enough for them to get to it.

What We Recommend for Their Tank

If you want to make their tank feel a little more natural, add some leaves, driftwood, and botanicals. They'll add tannins to the water and give these somewhat shy fish a little more cover.
