Spotted Blue-Eye Rainbowfish | Pseudomugil gertrudae

Rendering loop-subscriptions

The Spotted Blue-Eye Rainbowfish is a beautifully delicate small rainbowfish. They only grow to 1.5”. They inhabit shallow heavily vegetated slow-moving streams or standing waters with submerged branches, roots, or leaf litter.  They prefer warm temperatures 70-83o F. In nature they can be found in Papua New Guinea and nearby territories.

Please Note: All fish shipments have a 100% Live Arrival Guarantee when shipping with Overnight (1 Day) option. All other options void our Live Arrival Guarantee for fish.

They enjoy the water to be stained with tannins (Almond leaves would be perfect as cover as well). Some floating plants such as Salvinia also give them a sense of calm. Java Moss is great to give the eggs and fry cover since the adults will try and eat them.

Spotted Blue-Eye Rainbowfish prefer to be kept in small groups of 8-10 individuals.  We feed them a large variety of foods which include finely ground Northfin flake foods, small Northfin pellets (veggie, community, & bug pro), frozen foods. Their scientific name is Pseudomugil gertrudae.

Spotted Blue-Eye

Absolutely beautiful fish, came in perfectly healthy. One is on the slender side, hoping to fatten her up with brine shrimp. Can't wait to order more fish

Healthy, M + F, not all same breed?

My dozen or so spotted blue eyes all arrived healthy and lively. I wanted to have a mix of males and females. I ended up with mostly males and I’m glad to have some of each sex. I don’t know enough about breeding and if this is recessive, but the coloring of the fins is not the same throughout and I would have liked it to be, but since I do not know if this is to be expected, I didn’t knock any stars off. Just something for newbies, like me, to be aware of. One has very bright opaque yellow pectoral fins and another bright opaque orange. The rest are a more uniform translucent yellow, even with fish of the same size compared to the outliers. They have done very well. No one has gotten sick and they appear to be happy in their planted 20 gallon quarantine home.

Extremely healthy fish

All my rainbow fish came in alive, very healthy/lively and most importantly ick free!!! I've bought fish from quite a few other places and theres always one or two dead but not with flip aquatics. And it can be quite hard to find grouping fish without ick, so I'm extremely impressed and happy with my fish. 100% recommend and honestly I'd give 10 stars if I could.

Blue eye Gertrudae

So far, I can honestly say I’ve no issues whatsoever with ordering from Flip Aquatics! I’ve recently fallen for the blue eyes (both luminatus and gertrudae). My local aquarium store rarely has blue eye luminatus, so my previous order from Flip was of course some luminatus’, which all arrived alive, healthy looking and colored up quickly once inside the aquarium. I’ve wanted some gertrudae, so when I saw they had some spotted blue eye gertrudae’s, I didn’t hesitate. I received 7 yellow colored, active gertrudae’s and packaged well (of course). The males were flashing their fins on day 2 in my tank. It’s been two weeks now and they seem to be thriving and their coloring is starting to change and I can see some darkening on their fins and body. They’re a little less skittish than they were (compared to the luminatus) but I love watching them in my tank, inspecting everything. Sometimes my younger Pygmy’s shoal along with them. Very peaceful temperament. I recently (and stupidly) ordered from another online seller that was also supposed to be reputable, and was shocked at how they packaged their fish as well as the overall condition (and water quality) they arrived in. I’ve ordered fish online from 3 sellers now, one was also great but on the more expensive side, one definitely should not be on a list of reputable online sellers as I had a DOA, crappy unlabeled packaging and even before receiving my order, short, not friendly responses from customer service. So lesson learned on my part. Flip truly cares about the welfare of their fish which shows in how well packaged the fish are (sometimes too well! After I’ve had a fight w/ the rubber bands, then I have round two with the insanely super tight, secure knotting of each bag….but cant make any gripes since it’s one of the many reasons every fish I’ve received has arrived alive and well ;) ) Also, something that I didn’t think about or appreciate until I received from another seller: they put a LABEL on each bag so you know what kind of fish is in the bag and how many (and thanks Flip for those +1’s!!). I had nothing but great experiences with Flip Aquatics so far and out of the 3 online sellers, Flip is the only one I’ve placed more than one order from and from now on probably the only place I’ll order fish from. I couldn’t be happier with my gertrudae and luminatus’. THANK YOU!
