Red Lizard Whiptails are peaceful fish that spend much of their time exploring the bottom of the tank, grazing on surfaces, and hanging out around driftwood. They're a great addition to established planted aquariums and peaceful community tanks.
Like other lizard whiptail catfish, these guys appreciate plenty of hiding spots, smooth substrate, and driftwood to explore. They enjoy grazing on algae and biofilm, but don't mistake them for a cleanup crew that can survive on leftovers alone. They still need to be fed a proper diet!

While they don't get massive, they still appreciate plenty of space along the bottom of the tank. We recommend a soft sand or smooth substrate, driftwood, and hiding spots where they can feel comfortable. They also do best in established aquariums with stable water conditions and good oxygenation.
Red Lizard Whiptails are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive community fish. Just keep in mind that they are slower feeders, so you'll want to make sure they're getting their share of food!
