Red Cherry Shrimp for Sale

Red Cherry Shrimp are one of the most popular freshwater shrimp in the aquarium hobby. Their bright red coloration stands out beautifully in planted tanks, and they are easy to care for and breed, making them ideal for both beginners and experienced aquarists.

Are Red Cherry Shrimp Beginner Friendly?

Yes! Cherry shrimp are hardy and adapt well to a variety of water conditions. They’re peaceful, clean up excess food and algae, and are one of the most affordable options in the shrimp-keeping world. Their calm nature allows them to live harmoniously with many small fish species and invertebrates.

Characteristics of Cherry Shrimp

Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) typically grow to 1–2 inches and are graded based on the intensity of their red color. Females are usually larger and more colorful than males. These shrimp thrive in groups and add vibrant activity to nano and community aquariums.

What to Consider Before Buying

We recommend only buying Cherry Shrimp from suppliers who hold them for at least 30 days. This helps ensure:

  • Proper molting and mineral absorption
  • Reduced stress from shipping
  • Treatment for any bacterial or parasitic issues

At Flip Aquatics, we quarantine every shrimp for 30 days before they’re made available for sale.

Feeding Cherry Shrimp

We feed three types of pellets from Shrimp Envy:

Water Parameters We Keep

  • pH: 7.2 – 7.9
  • GH: 6 – 10
  • KH: 2 – 4
  • TDS: 140 – 250
  • Temperature: 68°F – 72°F

Ideal Tank Setup

Live Arrival Guarantee

Every shrimp order includes our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee (valid for 7 days post-shipment). Our team carefully packs each order to protect shrimp health and safety.

  • Count shrimp before adding to your tank
  • Always check inside the bag for any stuck shrimp
  • If losses occur, we may request photos for a refund or replacement

Our shrimp are held for 30 days before shipping to ensure health and stability.

Breeding Cherry Shrimp

  • Keep a male-to-female mix (females are more colorful and larger)
  • Include moss, almond leaves, and sponge filters to encourage baby shrimp survival
  • Stable water conditions are key to successful breeding

Acclimation Tips

We ship using breather bags, so avoid floating the bag for more than 30 minutes. Use the drip method over 30-60 minutes to acclimate slowly. If shrimp show distress, release them promptly to avoid suffocation or ammonia stress.

Health & Bacterial Prevention

  • Regular water changes
  • A consistent, balanced feeding routine
  • Watch for signs of stress like pale color or sluggishness
  • Avoid overfeeding and maintain clean conditions
  • Test water regularly and adjust as needed

With proper care, your Cherry Shrimp colony will thrive and add color and life to your aquarium.

Shrimp!

I ordered 30, and they all came alive and well (plus 4 extra). Only two did not survive the first week, meaning they were almost all in great condition. I was pleasantly surprised by the coloration on many of them: I expected all of them to be super low grade, but there was a pretty even spectrum between fully red, nearly all transparent, and lots of variation between those extremes. Pictured is Craig in what I call "The shrimp position!"

Unfortunately I didn't have luck. I thought I acclimated them. 🥲
