The Pom Pom Crab scientifically known as Ptychognathus barbatus is a freshwater crab that's super interesting because of their little fluffy claws that look like little pom poms. They're omnivorous bottom-feeders, the pom pom crab grazes on debris, but we feed our pom pom crabs NorthFin BugPro and NorthFin Kelp Wafers. Its namesake fluffy claws likely aid in gathering bits during scavenging. While generally peaceful, some aggression towards small tankmates such as dwarf shrimp has been noted.
Though technically fully aquatic, they are avid climbers and potential escape artists requiring a securely fitted lid. Tanks should minimize aggressivity risk by providing ample floor space and hiding spots for tiny tankmates.
