Otocinclus Catfish

Introducing the Otocinclus Catfish - The Ultimate Algae Eater for Your Aquarium!

Meet the Otocinclus Catfish, affectionately known as an Oto, renowned as one of the best algae-eating fish in the hobby. With a maximum size of around 2 inches, this fish is the perfect addition to any shrimp or planted aquarium, diligently keeping algae growth in check. At Flip Aquatics, we have relied on this exceptional fish since the beginning of our journey in the hobby.

Incorporating the Otocinclus into your aquarium offers unparalleled algae control. For a highly efficient cleaning crew, combine them with other algae eaters like nerite snails and amano shrimp. Together, they create an unstoppable force, ensuring your planted aquarium remains pristine and visually appealing. We wholeheartedly recommend the Otocinclus for this purpose.

Scientifically known as Otocinclus huaorani, these catfish possess remarkable algae-consuming abilities, making them an invaluable asset to maintaining a healthy aquatic environment. With their small size and peaceful nature, they coexist harmoniously with other tank inhabitants, including shrimp and plants.

To ensure the health and vitality of our Otocinclus, we provide them with a balanced diet. Our feeding regimen includes a mix of Northfin Veggie and Community foods, with their main source of sustenance being Northfin Kelp Wafers. This combination guarantees their nutritional needs are met, promoting their overall well-being.

Rest assured, all fish shipments are covered by our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee when selecting the Overnight (1 Day) shipping option, ensuring your Otocinclus Catfish arrive in optimal condition.

Essential helpers

All of the Otos I ordered are plump and healthy, always at work keeping my tank free of algae. They make tank maintenance so easy and are amusing to watch as well!

Return Customer - Still Happy

Ordered 5 otos and they arrived with a friend! A month later, I’m happy to say that all six are living their best lives with my shrimp and snails. I’ve been curious about otos for years, but was afraid they might be too fragile to deal with. These fish were in very good shape when they arrived, not skinny and scraggly-looking. I followed the acclimation instructions and kept the lights dim for for a day or so. They were out and about immediately.

Since the website mentioned the type of kelp wafers they were eating, I bought those, too. My shrimp go nuts for them, and the otos are on them after they get soft and start to break up. I was relieved to see them accept other foods besides algae. Canned green beans are happily enjoyed by all, as well.

These guys are so fun to watch, and I think their smart body stripes and checkerboard tails are very pretty. They don’t bother my shrimpies, except for lounging in their food dish. Hahaha
