The Neon Kuhli Loach has a slender, eel-like body with a mix of iridescent blues and oranges, creating a stunning contrast against a dark substrate or lush plant life. The Neon Kuhli Loach is a peaceful and social bottom-dweller, making it a great companion for other non-aggressive species in a community tank.
In addition to its striking appearance, the Neon Kuhli Loach is known for its active and inquisitive behavior. Often seen darting in and out of crevices or burrowing into the substrate, it adds a lively and playful energy to the aquarium. This loach thrives in well-maintained tanks with soft, sandy substrates and plenty of hiding spots, such as driftwood or densely planted areas.
What are they like?
The Kuhli Loach is a real night owl. They are active mainly at night and can peacefully co-exist with most other fish. During the night, they will look for food that sunk to the bottom of the aquarium. On top of that, their natural curiosity will drive them to explore any crevices and caves that might be around in their habitat.
The ideal conditions for the Kuhli Loach
Despite the fact that these fish are scavengers, they still require a relatively clean, well-oxygenated tank. They highly prefer a soft substrate, as it makes searching for food more manageable, so sand or fine gravel would be best. The water should be soft, slightly acidic and at a temperature of 73 – 86 °F, as these are tropical fish. Further, you should make sure that there is moderate lighting in their habitat.

Tank Recommendations:
I ordered four neon kuhlis (along with some guppies and snails and supplies,) and everybody arrived safe and sound. The kuhlis are all teeny, adorable little babies. They're like angel hair spaghetti sized now, but some day they'll be udon noodles.
Acclimating them was a little troublesome because they were so lively, they kept trying to leap out of the quarantine container! But the juvenile kuhlis have now joined my community tank, where I already have five adult kuhlis.
They spent the first couple of days hiding in the moss, but they seem much more comfortable after a couple of feedings, and have started joining the kuhli zooms.
Everybody seems to be getting along, eating well, and enjoying their new home so far. Looking forward to watching them grow!
