The Lemon Tetra or Hyphessobrycon Pulchripinnisis an inquisitive freshwater fish, lovingly named after its vibrant yellow coloring and round bodies often likened to a small lemon. Lemon Tetra is ideal for living in community aquariums and are happiest amongst similarly-sized tankmates. These vibrant fish prefer to live in mixed-sex groups of eight or more.
Lemon Tetra are peaceful tropical fish but are certainly enjoyable to watch as they are
active swimmers throughout the day, making them a popular choice for aquarists. Growing to around two inches in length, they are ideal for smaller aquariums and can be paired with other friendly tetras.
If you’re looking for an adaptable and friendly tropical fish, a Lemon Tetra is a fantastic
choice. They are ideal for beginner to intermediate owners thanks to their peaceful
demeanor, easy care requirements, and can live up to eight years with proper care and
attention.
Originating from the Tapajós River Basin in South America, Lemon Tetra are best suited to heavily planted aquariums with filtered lighting and sandy substrate to mimic their natural habitat. This little yellow fish is often found in narrow streams and so enjoys slow water flow in their tanks. Be sure to provide safe hiding places on the perimeter with twisted roots and driftwood, with open space for swimming.
Tetras are naturally omnivorous, feeding predominantly on small invertebrates,
crustacea, algae, and fruit. We feed a mix of live foods including live baby brine shrimp, blackworms, bloodworms, and Daphnia. We supplement their diet with Northfin Veggie, Community, and Bug Pro to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet.
