TheL306 Blood Red Tiger Pleco, also known as theTakutu Tiger Pleco, is seriously one of the coolest tiger plecos out there! These guys have bold banding that can develop beautiful reddish-brown to red coloration, giving them that classic tiger pleco look with a little extra attitude.
Unlike many L-number plecos, the L306 Pleco is actually a formally described speciesPanaqolus claustellifer. They originate from the Takutu and Rio Branco drainages of Brazil and Guyana, and the fish offered here areF3 tank raised from wild caught great-grandparents.
These L306 Blood Red Tiger Plecos have been selectively bred for increased red coloration and some really unique pattern traits, including broken or discontinuous bars. Basically, they are not your average pleco.
Like otherPanaqolus plecos, the Blood Red Tiger Pleco is a wood eater, also called xylophagous. That means they need real driftwood in the tank to graze on. It is not just decoration for them. It is an important part of their care and digestion.
L306 plecos stay at a manageable size compared to many larger pleco species, making them a really unique option for established aquariums with stable water, hiding spots, and plenty of wood. They are a great choice for hobbyists who want something a little more rare, a little more bold, and definitely not your average pleco.
L306 Blood Red Tiger Plecos are primarily herbivorous and xylophagous, so driftwood, vegetable-based foods, and algae-based sinking foods should make up most of their diet. Supplemental protein can be offered occasionally, but it should not be the main part of their diet.
We feed our Plecos a mix of NorthFin Veggie and NorthFin Community foods. Their main foods are NorthFin Kelp Wafers and unsalted green beans.
