Kuhli Loach

Kuhli Loach

The Kuhli Loach, also known as Pangio Kuhlii by its scientific name, is a fantastic freshwater fish for those looking for a peaceful addition to their aquarium. These little buddies are natural scavengers, eating up all sorts of things to keep your aquarium clean, and with an average lifespan of 10 years, you'll be enjoying their company for a very long time.

For whom is the Kuhli Loach suited?

These small fish may seem like an attractive addition to any aquarium due to their size and natural tendency to clean up the waste floating around in your aquarium without creating much themselves, but taking care of them is more complicated than you might expect. These fish have no scales and are somewhat prone to disease, and so we recommend that you have some experience in caring for scale-less fish if you're planning on getting them.

What are they like?

The Kuhli Loach is a real night owl. They are active mainly at night and can peacefully co-exist with most other fish. During the night, they will look for food that sunk to the bottom of the aquarium. On top of that, their natural curiosity will drive them to explore any crevices and caves that might be around in their habitat.

The ideal conditions for the Kuhli Loach

Despite the fact that these fish are scavengers, they still require a relatively clean, well-oxygenated tank. They highly prefer a soft substrate, as it makes searching for food more manageable, so sand or fine gravel would be best. The water should be soft, slightly acidic and at a temperature of 73 – 86 °F, as these are tropical fish. Further, you should make sure that there is moderate lighting in their habitat.

    Kuhli loach

The fish came in packaged well and healthy. It is already hanging out with the rest of his buddies in my planted aquarium.

    Fun little critters

Ordered 7 of these to join a small group of existing Kuhli loaches in my tank which I would only see 2 or so at a time.. usually late at night with lights dim. Did a tank cleaning a few days before my new loaches arrived and found that I still had 5 Khuli loaches still alive in my tank, when I thought I had maybe 2 or 3.

New batch of loaches came in healthy and looking amazing, an extra was sent as well.. which is fairly typical with flip aquatics to send an extra in case of shipping.

Like most flip orders, all my animal I ordered arrived alive. They always do an amazing job with packing and shipping,

Now I have 13 Khuli loaches hanging out with my shrimp and other fish in my tank. Highly recommend having +5 or more in a tank, it really makes a difference. They are so much more playful can active at all times of the day now that they are in numbers.

    Great cleaner fish

Mine were all healthy and small. Never showed any sign of illness or stress. Acted like they wanted to escape the 1st day but a couple weeks later they are out at all times and doubled in size.

    great little guys

This was my first time buying from flip aquatics. I was very nervous since I had never ordered fish in the mail before. Worry not! They pack the fish as carefully as humanly possible. There's still always going to be a chance of a fish passing away during transport but they do everything in their power to prevent it. My 3 little guys got here safe.
