Scientifically known as Poecilia latipinna, the Gold Dust Lyretail Molly is a marvel of the animal kingdom. Belonging to the Poeciliidae family, they are native to freshwater environments in North America, particularly in the southeastern United States. Their scientific name, Poecilia latipinna, derives from the Greek word "poikilos" meaning "varied" and the Latin "latipinna" referring to their prominent dorsal fin—a fitting name for these visually diverse and striking fish.
One cannot help but be entranced by the Gold Dust Lyretail Molly's dazzling appearance. These fish exhibit a breathtaking golden sheen that seems to sprinkle their bodies with the finest stardust. Measuring approximately 2.5 to 3 inches in length, their elongated bodies are adorned with a delicate, lyre-shaped caudal fin that flows gracefully, reminiscent of a lyrical masterpiece. These graceful fins are particularly prominent in males, showcasing their vitality and vitality to potential mates.
For those interested in exploring the fascinating world of livebearer fish, the Gold Dust Lyretail Molly offers an excellent learning opportunity. They exhibit viviparous reproduction, where females give birth to live fry instead of laying eggs. Witnessing this remarkable process can be an educational and rewarding experience, providing insights into the wonders of aquatic life.
Due to their captivating golden hues and elegant tails, Gold Dust Lyretail Mollies are versatile additions to a range of aquarium themes. Whether your tank showcases a lush aquatic garden, a rocky underwater landscape, or a minimalist design, these fish effortlessly enhance the visual appeal of your aquatic habitat.
We feed our fish a mix of frozen, live and prepared foods including daphnia, baby brine and cyclops. We also supplement their diet with a mix of Northfin Veggie and Community.

Tank Recommendations
These fish are beautiful, they arrived healthy and very active. One of my favorite mollies, I can’t wait to order more. Hope to have some babies soon.
I got a pair of these fish for my 30 gallon alongside a corydoras school and a young bristlenose pleco and a breeding population of assassin snails, and here's hoping they eventually also have some babies! They are beautiful and arrived in perfect health, already eager to eat at a few threads of stubborn hair algae I had on plant leaves, and have been doing very well with the school of panda corys and the breeding group of assassin snails. They have been showing some courting behavior already just a week after introducing them, and accept a wide range of foods including helping to clean up the daily mini algae wafer for the lone bristlenose and the corys. This variety is exceptionally gorgeous, and loves the neutral hardwater tank with a bit of salinity a lot, so I highly recommend if you want any one type of molly, you put this one on your list of favorites.
All arrived as expected
I ordered 4 of these fish, and initially asked for 1M3F, with a slightly delayed shipping date, and Flip was happy to accommodate. Then I changed my mind on the sex ratio, just emailed, and they updated my order (which hadn't gone to be packed yet) with no trouble at all. They were shipped overnight but unfortunately 2 of them - 1M and 1F - arrived DOA. I don't have a lot of experience with mollies so wasn't sure if this is typical for them in shipping or not. I emailed with photos per the policy and Flip refunded immediately and with an apology and sympathy, which was really nice. The other female was a bit listless and died a couple of days later, sadly. She mostly hung out at the bottom of the tank and then just passed. However, the surviving male is absolutely beautiful, curious, playful, and has taken up swimming with my tetras and cories until I get him some molly friends. I would definitely order again as I suspect this was just a weird one-off occurrence. It just made me sad!
