Bleeding Blue Tetra

The Bleeding Blue Tetra is uncommonly imported and spectacularly colored community aquarium fish. They come from calm blackwater streams and flooded forest land in the upper Río Nanay in Loreto, Peru. They are perfect community fish with other similar fish.

They grow to the adult size of 2 inches.  They make a perfect addition to a 15-gallon tank or larger with like sized calm fish.  They enjoy being around live plants, so those are a plus if your tank is set up for aquatic plants. It is encouraged that they be kept in groups of 8 to 10 so they feel comfortable in their aquarium.

Please Note: All fish shipments have a 100% Live Arrival Guarantee when shipping with FedEx Overnight (1 Day) option. All other options void our Live Arrival Guarantee for fish.

To replicate their natural habitat, the use of rock work, plants, and driftwood should be included in the aquarium. They also enjoy tannins in their water, so the use of Indian Almond or Guava leaves is highly recommended. We would not recommend keeping this fish with shrimp colonies due to the likeliness of the bleeding blue tetra eating baby shrimp and potentially picking at adult shrimp.

The scientific name for the bleeding blue tetra is: Hyphessobrycon margitae

They are omnivores by nature. We feed our Bleeding Blue Tetras a mix of frozen foods including daphnia, baby brine, cyclops, and bloodworms with the occassional mix of Northfin foods.

    Bleeding Blue Tetra

I recently purchased 11 Bleeding Blue Terras from Flip Aquatics and I can’t possibly describe how impressed I was with the packaging of the fish. The fish were shipped in a timely manner and included heat packs and instructions on how to properly acclimate. They are now in the aquarium and thriving. Their colors are coming in and they make a wonderful addition to my South American aquarium.

I recently purchased the bleeding blue tetras and Celestial Pearl Danios from Flip Aquatics and I was absolutely amazed. The packaging was top notch and I did not lose a single fish. They are now thriving in their respected aquariums. I will definitely place an order in the future.
