Many fish are real community animals, and the Rummynose Tetra isn't any different. They prefer moving in schools, making them the perfect addition to your aquarium if you're looking for a species that will make your aquarium look truly alive and crowded. With a maximum length of 4.5 cm, you'll be able to clearly observe these schooling fish as they swim around the bounds of your aquarium.
For whom is the Rummynose Tetra suited?
The Rummynose Tetra is, generally speaking, easy to care for, but it does have some requirements that shouldn't be overlooked. Not only is it very important that this fish is accompanied by at least around 10 of the same species, but these little fish love to swim, and so an aquarium length of at least 80 cm is certainly recommended. Nevertheless, both beginner and experienced aquarists will be able to find a place in their aquarium due to the low requirements as far as equipment goes.
What are they like?
In the aquarium, these great fish actually gather into a school. Socializing with other fish is no problem; the Rummynose Tetra fits wonderfully into a community aquarium. Shrimp offspring may be eaten, so these aquarium fish should be socialized either with very well reproducing species of the genus Neocaridina or, for example, with Sulawesi land shrimp, or with the much larger and more assertive Amano shrimp. Socialization with peaceful dwarf crayfish also works well with this rather strongly surface-oriented tetra.
The ideal conditions for the Rummynose Tetra
The Rummynose Tetra is best kept in soft to medium-hard water with a low pH value of approx. 6.0 to 7 and a temperature of approx. 76-84 °F. It is important that the nitrate level in the aquarium is quite low, as the Rummynose Tetra can react quite sensitively to this. They love to swim and need an aquarium with an edge length of at least 80 cm. It should be well planted at the edges, but also offer enough space for swimming.
What we feed our Tetras
We feed our fish a mix of frozen, live and prepared foods including live baby brine and black worms. We also supplement their diet with a mix of Northfin Veggie, Community and Bug Pro.
Our Tank Parameters
most colored up immediately in their new home in a moderately planted 90 gallon and the rest of them perked up by the next morning. They're a little skittish, even around gentle corydoras but they become tiny piranha at dinnertime and their tight schooling pattern is delightful!
My order of 20 Rummy Nose arrived within on week in excellent condition. They have remained in good health and actively schooling.
Fish all arrived alive and healthy. The rummynose tetras went straight to a heavy planted quarantine tank, and by the next morning fish already had their bright red nose back!
3rd order from flip, fully satisfied everytime!
