The Ruby Tetra is an absolute stunning nano fish with hints of reddish orange color. They truly stand out in a planted aquarium. It is important to provide hiding places for these fish as they can get stressed out. We recommend rock and driftwood to create caves and crevices.
The Ruby Tetra will reach sizes of about 1 inch. They are pretty peaceful. Although, we would not recommend keeping them with shrimp. They prefer small live foods so baby shrimp would become an easy target.
The scientific name for the Ruby Tetra is Axelrodia riesei.
We feed our Ruby Tetras a mix of frozen foods including daphnia, baby brine and cyclops. We occasionally feed them Northfin Veggie.

These have to be one of my favorite tetras! They are a glowy orange with pretty black and white markings on the fins and a jewel toned spot on their tail, not to mention their fiesty and fearless personalities!
3+ year review! I ordered 12 Ruby Tetras 9/27/2021, shipped 9/29/2021 and 14 arrived 9/30/2021. A month later I order another 5 (+1 free) as well as 10 (+2 free) Green Kubotai Rasbora and I moved them all into a UNS90L planted tank with some cories I had. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The Ruby Tetra's were very shy on their own, but with the GKB's they became more comfortable. They are still a very shy fish in comparison to other nano fish I have kept, but very unique fish. All 32 have thrived in my tank for over 3 years. Provide them with live plants (floating plants a bonus), hiding spots (rock, wood), low flow, and some botanicals/blackwater and maybe some less shy companions to help bring them out and they will do well for you. I'm trying something different for my next tank, but I will consider Ruby Tetras again in the future. Thanks Flip Aquatics!
I love the Ruby Tetras. They arrived safely and colored up in less than 4 hours which was a pleasant surprise. Pleasure doing business with a stellar company. Will definitely be buying from you again. Thanks
