Cuckoo Catfish, scientifically known as Synodontis Petricola, is a small catfish from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They grow to about 4-4.5 inches in size. They have cool, leopard like black spots across their body with fins edged in white. These active fish are known for their playful behavior, like swimming upside down, and can even make squeaking or croaking sounds when out of water.
Syno Petricola are peaceful and best kept in groups of at least 4, though larger groups will keep them happier and more social. We hold each catfish for at least two weeks before shipping, giving them expert care so they are healthy and ready for your tank! Our Synodontis catfish are shipped in breather bags and packed into boxes with recycled insulation and sent overnight to reduce stress.
Synodontis Catfish are mostly carnivorous and do best with a variety of meaty foods. They readily accept frozen or live options like bloodworms, brine shrimp, or daphnia. High-quality sinking pellets or wafers can be offered as a staple. A mixed diet keeps them active, healthy, and showing their best behavior.
