Rotala Macrandra is one of the most popular mid-ground aquarium plants of all time, and it’s easy to see why! Their beautiful, vibrant colors make them something to be desired as an excellent decorative plant that will add a bit of life to your aquarium. However, the care of this plant is not to be underestimated!
For whom is the Rotala Macrandra suited?
The Rotala Macrandra was initially discovered in India and was found to grow in marshy areas. Their beautiful colors make them desired by beginners and experts alike, but you will quickly find their leaves wilting if you don’t take enough care of them! They are not very forgiving when it comes to water conditions, making them not very suitable for beginners.
What are they like?
While they do require quite a bit of care, the Rotala Macrandra certainly rewards those who are ready to put in the effort. With their beautiful crimson colors, they will decorate your aquarium floor beautifully. They grow very dense leaves, which will require regular pruning. Other than that, they won’t grow very tall.
The ideal conditions for the Rotala Macrandra
As mentioned before, the Rotala Macrandra requires quite a bit of care, as not meeting the conditions will make the plant die rather quickly. The pH needs to be between 6.0 and 7.0 at all times, and supplementation with iron and other trace elements is undoubtedly recommended. As for lighting, these plants need a lot of it. In areas with a lot of shade, they will die rather quickly. They require soft water and thrive at a temperature between 72 – 78 °F.
