3 Red Racer Nerite Snails

Red Racer Nerite Snail

The Red Racer Nerite Snail scientifically known as Vittina waigiensis is such a cool snail due to its vibrant coloration and distinctive shell patterns. Originally the red racer snail can be found in the Philippines and is highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts because it's so hard to find. Each snail has its own look, with varying patterns and warm colors of yellow, orange, red, and more. The name “Red Racer” likely comes from the racing stripe-like markings on its shell. When you first receive them, they might look a little different, but once they're in the water under proper aquarium lighting, their true colors really come to life.

One of the key attractions of the Red Racer Nerite Snail is its longevity, often living up to four years. These snails reproduce in brackish or marine water, meaning they won’t multiply in freshwater tanks, helping to keep populations manageable and stable. Like other nerite snails, the red racer nerite snail thrives in mature aquariums rich in algae and biofilm.

  • Peaceful Nature: Compatible with a wide range of tank mates.
  • Unique Shell Patterns: Each snail exhibits a diverse array of eye-catching colors.
  • Plant-Friendly: Safe for all aquatic plants.
  • Effective Algae Eater: Assists in keeping your aquarium clean.
  • No Freshwater Reproduction: Prevents overpopulation issues.

Tiny cleaning crew

Snails arrived healthy and active, and I've gone straight to work making short work of all the algae in the tank within just a few days. They practically cleaned off the entire front panel of glass. Not only are they beautiful but very active. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get started with snails.

Really cool snails. Ten days in and they are happy and alive. Not as decorated as the ones in the picture, but still great. Thanks!
