Neon Blue Rasbora | Blue Axelrodi

Neon Blue Rasbora (Sundadanio axelrodi), also called the Blue Axelrodi Rasbora, is a small freshwater fish with a solid metallic blue body. These delicate rasboras are extremely sensitive when imported because they can be prone to parasites, so we hold them for a minimum of 14 days and run them through a parasite cleanse before listing them for sale. Once they’re healthy, blue neon rasboras become much easier to care for, but we still do not recommend them for beginners. This species is characterized by its vibrant coloration, peaceful temperament, and active schooling behavior, making it a unique addition to nano aquariums.

Blue neon rasboras can grow up to 1 inch in length, making them ideal for small tanks. They are native to blackwater streams and peat swamps in Borneo, Sumatra, and other parts of Indonesia. In the wild, you can find these fish in slow-moving, tannin-rich waters surrounded by dense vegetation.

Natural Habitat

The Blue Axelrodi Rasbora originates from the Greater Sunda Islands in Indonesia and thrives in true black‑water conditions with soft, acidic water rich with natural botanicals. In a well‑planted aquarium, these small neon blue rasboras will show their best behavior. To support their natural needs, it is important to provide plenty of cover, botanicals, and soft water to mimic their native environment. They feel most at home among leaf litter and alder cones, where these guys school together as a group of at least four fish, displaying their metallic blue bodies. By recreating this type of black‑water setup, it helps ensure their well‑being, enhances their vitality, and reduces the chances of this delicate fish becoming stressed.

Diet for Blue Neon Rasboras

Feeding Blue Neon Rasboras is simple once you know their favorites. We focus on three main types of fish food and try to rotate them daily. Our favorite food type is live daphnia because it doesn’t foul the water and helps prevent bloating. The next type we offer is a mix of Northfin Flake Foods, but be sure to smash the flakes into tiny pieces so these small fish can easily eat them. For optimal health and vibrant color, it is recommended to provide a variety of live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, cyclops, or frozen daphnia. They will also accept pellets but be sure to choose very fine pellets (small size) so the rasboras can consume them without trouble. Blue Neon Rasboras may take some time to learn to accept new foods, especially dried options, so patience and consistent feeding are important as they gradually adapt.

Suggest Tank Setup

Blue neon rasboras do best in a 10‑gallon tank size or larger with ample room for schooling. We recommend keeping them in group sizes of at least four to help them feel secure. Blue neon rasboras do best with plenty of aquarium plants like vallisneria or dwarf sag. They prefer a pH around 7—though they do well anywhere between 6.5 and 7.5—and add aquarium botanicals like alder cones or Indian almond leaves to create gentle black‑water conditions. This simple setup makes it possible for your blue neon rasboras to thrive and display their bright metallic color. The best approach is to maintain a well-planted, stable environment to encourage natural behaviors and potential breeding. When introducing new fish to the tank, be sure to acclimate them gradually to the water parameters to reduce stress and ensure their health.

Blue rasbora

This little guy arrived healthy and I put him in my nano tank with merah raspboras and some green Kubota rasboras. They all get along well and are about the same size. All the fish I ordered here arrive healthy and after a day or two in the tank, they brighten up and are active.

Little Nanos

All fish arrived alive and seem to be thriving after 2 days.
Although I don't know why there is a special instruction box on the order form.

Really pleasant

Fish were extremely well packed and came through in terrific shape. After acclimatization settled in quickly with their new tank mates and added a new focal point with their stunning blue bodies always on the move together in a school. They are not like any other fish in the tank, extremely curious as they explore every corner and niche in the aquarium, are constantly on the move and readily accept flake, frozen and live foods as long as it's small enough for their little mouths. . Really doing well from the git go.
