Also known as Rainbow Tetra, the Emperor Tetra or Nematobrycon Palmeri is a beautiful multi-colored freshwater fish popularized by its shimmery body and regal appearance. Emperor Tetras grow to around 1.5 inches in size making them ideal for smaller aquariums and community tanks with smaller-sized species. Their unique coloration and prominent black stipe make a nice contrast to other fish, and you’ll be able to enjoy watching their scales shine under aquarium lighting.
Emperor Tetras are a smaller-sized tropical fish characterized by their peaceful nature. Their laidback personality is incompatible with boisterous tankmates, overly active swimmers or larger species who may view them as prey. Emperor Tetras are a naturally schooling fish but are more than happy to live their days in pairs if desired. Pair with other non-violent Tetras for a peaceful tank environment.
Suitable for beginners and experienced aquarists, Emperor Tetras are small but mighty.
They look wonderful in community tanks but must be kept away from aggressive fish and larger companions.
Emperor Tetras are found in quiet, slow-moving Western Colombian rivers with dense
vegetation, subdued lighting, and dark substrate. Recreate this environment using sand, gravel, and ample small-leaf vegetation for a happy and thriving Emperor Tetra. They prefer soft to moderately hard tank water and require ample room to swim without getting stuck in vegetation.
Tetras are naturally omnivorous, feeding predominantly on small invertebrates,
crustacea, algae, and fruit. We feed a mix of live foods including live baby brine shrimp, blackworms, bloodworms, and Daphnia. We supplement their diet with Northfin Veggie, Community, and Bug Pro to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet.
