The Blue Tetra is a great mid to upper level water occupying fish, best suited for medium to large tanks. We recommend keeping them in tanks of 20 gallons or larger due to their active nature and ability to reach nearly 2 inches in size. This Tetra enjoys slightly acidic water that has tannins, driftwood, and or leaf litter.
This tetra has a unique appearance, with a mostly clear body with a light to bright blue coloration taking up its back half. This tetra is relatively peaceful but can be aggressive while feeding, tank mates should be picked with caution. We do not recommend keeping them with smaller invertebrates or long finned fish due to that reason. This fish does best while kept in small to medium size groups, 6 or more is ideal.
The scientific name for the Blue Tetra is: Boehlkea fredcochui.
We feed our Blue Tetras a mix of Northfin Community and Veggie., and freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. They also get an occasional treat of frozen foods such as daphnia, cyclopods and blood worms.
