The Blue Ram is a beautiful small blue, yellow, and pink fish. They only grow to about 2 inches. They are particularly colorful when they are in breeding colors. They inhabit shallow heavily vegetated slow-moving streams with submerged branches, roots, or leaf litter. They are active fish that look great in a small group. They prefer warm temperatures 78-86o F. The original wild rams came from Venezuela and Columbia. They have been captive-bred for many years. The rams we sell are captive bred.
Please Note: All fish shipments have a 100% Live Arrival Guarantee when shipping with the Overnight (1 Day) option. All other options void our Live Arrival Guarantee for fish.
To resemble their natural environment, sandy bottom with driftwood and a few rounded or flat rocks for them to breed on is ideal. Leaves on the bottom to add cover will also help. They enjoy water that has been stained with tannins (Almond leaves would be perfect as cover as well). Keeping them with other small schools of Cardinal or Green Neons would also give them comfort by making them feel it’s safe.
Blue Rams should have very good water quality particularly if you are hoping to breed them. We feed them a large variety of foods which include ground Northfin flake foods, small Northfin pellets (veggie, community, & bug pro), frozen foods and live baby brine.
The scientific name for Dwarf Blue Rams is Mikrogeophagus ramirezi.
Our Tank Parameters
Tank Recommendations
Received the two rams I ordered. One was a good size about 1.5 inches the other was just about an inch. Unfortunately the smaller made it only about a week. Water parameters were maybe just too stressed.
Fish arrived in good condition and are doing great in my tank. Eating well and quite pretty.
Just an all around great experience with these fish and this business! The rams all arrived healthy, they included some extras and 2 weeks out everyone’s healthy and happy! I have them in a tank with discus, angels, tetras, and Cory’s and they haven’t shown much aggression at all to other fish, they’re a bit territorial amongst themselves but also spend large amounts of time schooling too.
I also have to shout out the great service I got when it came to dealing with DOA’s. I live at high elevation and it’s recently gotten very cold. Due to a delay in shipping, bad snowstorm, I had an order of 40 cardinals arrive DOA. 3 miraculously survived despite freezing water going to show how healthy they were to begin with. The team at Flip Aquatics didn’t even hesitate to reassure me I’d be taken care of after submitting my proof and claim. They sent the next order with my new cardinals, and even some extras just in case and really went out of their way to help with all of my questions and concerns when shipping to elevation. I’ve ordered 3 times with these guys and despite winter had two orders show up completely alive. Great customer service, great fish! Highly highly recommend
All three fish arrived alive. They’re active and alert but I’m somewhat worried about their fins. Two of them each have a frayed looking pectoral fin and one has the same issue with its tail fin. The two with pectoral fin issues are holding them tight against their bodies most of the time. I’ve ordered plenty of shrimp as well as dwarf emerald rasboras and green kubotai. Never had any issues before this. Really hoping they’re not seriously ill and the fins can make a full recovery.
