The Orange Fin Stiphodon Goby or Stiphodon Maculidorsalis is easily distinguishable thanks to its bright orange dorsal fins and striped tubular body. A delightful addition to mature aquariums, the Orange Fin Goby’s unique appearance and peaceful nature make them an ever-popular choice for aquarists. You can choose to house your Goby in pairs or groups as desired. These little critters can climb glass so it’s important to ensure you fit a secure lid to prevent any escapees.
What are they like?
The Orange Fin Goby is a peaceful species with tons of personality. Endlessly entertaining, this small-sized fish is wonderful to watch during the day and makes a great companion for most Rasboras and non-aggressive Tetras. Small but mighty, the Orange Goby can grow up to three inches, making it a good size for smaller tanks.
For whom is the Orange Fin Stiphodon Goby suited?
A notorious escape artist, the Orange Fin Goby is better suited to more experienced
aquarists due to its ability to climb and escape, along with its stringent water quality
requirements. Regular maintenance is required to ensure your Goby lives a long and healthy life.
The ideal conditions for the Orange Fin Stiphodon Goby
Native to Indonesia, the Orange Goby is found in shallow, fast-moving water and is
particularly sensitive to declines in water quality. Ensure your tank is set up with ample
organic structures where algae and biofilm can grow as this is essential to its health and longevity. If multiple males are present, ensure the tank is large enough to provide ample territory.
What we feed our Gobys
The Orange Goby is an algae and biofilm grazer, and so these foods should be readily
available to ensure their long-term health and happiness. A Goby enjoys plant based foods. We supplement their diet with a mix of fresh vegetables and Northfin Veggie, Community, Bug Pro, and Northfin Kelp Wafers to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet. We also feed our Gobys prepared algae wafers and let them graze on natural algae and bio-film. This can be supplemented by using Bacter A.E. which can be found by clicking here.
