The Norman’s Lampeye Killifish is small, peaceful, and great for beginners due to their easy care. Norman’s Lampeye gets its name from the glowing blue “lamp” above each eye. This nano fish comes from slow waters in Central and West Africa. It swims near the surface, so a tight lid is a must to avoid jumping. If they feel safe, they will display their best color in a planted aquarium with floating plants and a dark background. To ensure they feel safe, it is best to keep the lampeye killifish in groups of 6 or more.
Norman’s Lampeye are easy to breed egg scatterers. They spawn near the surface in floating plants or a yarn spawning mop, laying a few sticky eggs each day. For best results, move the mop or the Lampeye killifish so the eggs and fry aren’t eaten. Eggs usually hatch in about 10 to 14 days. Fry can easily feed off biofilm or naturally occurring infusoria until they are ready to eat live baby daphnia.
