Dwarf Hairgrass (Eleocharis acicularis) is a popular choice for creating lush, natural carpets in aquariums. Dwarf hairgrass has fine, grass-like blades, forming a soft, green lawn that adds depth and vibrancy to any aquascape. Dwarf Hairgrass is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to enhance the foreground of their tank. Dwarf Hairgrass will spread and grow faster provided a nutrient rich soil (our favorite soils can be found by clicking here.), CO2, and high lighting. Dwarf Hairgrass spreads through runners creating a dense, visually appealing carpet that promotes a healthy aquatic environment by oxygenating the water and providing shelter for small fish and shrimp.
Dwarf Hairgrass requires little pruning (especially if being used as a carpet plant) and can be easily propagated by dividing clumps or allowing it to spread naturally across the substrate. Dwarf Hairgrass has a compact, vibrant growth that enhances the overall aesthetic of your aquarium while also supporting ecological balance.
