The Celestial Pearl Danio, also known as the Galaxy Rasbora, is known for its great coloration. Most hobbyists relate this fish to a freshwater trout (obviously much smaller though). The Celestial Pearl Danio's (CPD) coloration consists of bright red fins with white speckles on a deep blue body.
Though not a true Rasbora, the name "Galaxy Rasbora" stuck due to their star-like spots and galaxy-like appearance. Their scientific name is Celestichthys margaritatus or Danio margaritatus.
Celestial Pearl Danios (CPDs) stay small, usually between ¾" to 1" long, making them a great choice for nano aquariums. They are peaceful but can be shy, especially when housed with larger or mildly aggressive fish. If you want them to show their best color and natural behavior, keep them with calm tank mates like shrimp or other Rasbora species.
At Flip Aquatics, we feed our CPDs a variety of high-quality foods including:
All fish orders are covered by our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee. Shop worry-free knowing your fish will arrive healthy or we’ll make it right.
You can safely keep 6 to 8 Celestial Pearl Danios in a 10-gallon tank. They do best in small groups and will feel more secure and active when kept together.
Yes and no. Our CPDs are very hardy due to our quarantine process. They often get a bad reputation for being delicate due to most stores not ensuring their health prior to selling. Ours adapt well to most aquarium setups if water parameters are consistent and stress is minimized.
CPDs may eat baby shrimp, especially if the shrimp are newly hatched. However, they usually leave adult shrimp alone. If you're keeping shrimp, make sure to provide plenty of hiding spaces by using things like Java Moss or botanicals.
Yes, they can jump, especially when startled. We recommend using a tight-fitting lid or mesh cover to prevent escapes. If you have an open top, avoid going from pitch black to lights on. This usually will trigger fish to jump from their aquarium.
