The Black Kuhlii loach (Pangio semicinctus), also called the Black Coolie Loach, is a peaceful, bottom‑dwelling fish that helps keep your tank clean. These loaches are great scavengers, they eat leftover food and waste so you don’t have to worryas much about overfeeding or ammonia spikes. They’re easy to care for, which makes them a good choice for beginners. Because they have no scales, it’s important to keep their water parameters stable and use soft sand (or other smooth substrates) on the tank bottom to avoid scratches that could lead to infections.
Black Kuhlii loaches are shy during the day and like to hide under plants or in caves. When the lights go off at night, they come out to wander and feed. Their scaleless skin means they can get sick more easily if water conditions change too much, so regular water changes and testing is a good practice. These loaches are very peaceful and get along well with other non-aggressive fish, making them a perfect addition to any community aquarium.
