Yellow Pumpkin Nerite Snails (also known as Mini-Bumble Bee Snails) are tiny freshwater snails with bright yellow shells in lots of different patterns—from pale lemon to rich gold, often striped or spotted. They stay super small (usually under ½ inch across), so they won’t crowd your tank. These little snails love grazing on algae, and their cheerful yellow shells add a fun pop of color to any aquarium.


Background and Key Benefits

Nerite snails or Neritina sp. are freshwater snails related to the mollusk family. They will clean algae from glass, substrate, and décor. They are also so popular in our hobby because they do not reproduce in freshwater. In the wild these snails return to brackish water to breed and the baby snails require brackish water for early stages of growth. Therefore, Nerite snails will not overpopulate in an aquarium.

Along with serving practical purposes in the aquarium, the snails have  beautiful shells and they are fun to watch. If you look at your glass closely after adding them, you will see the tiny track marks these snails make as they graze on algae!

We keep these snails on pool filtered sand and in bare bottom tanks with a Matten filters. We feed Shrimp King Algae Pops and Shrimp King Snail Stixx along with Indian Almond Leaves for natural biofilm. We also use LED lighting to provide enough natural algae growth  for them to feed. 

Please note: During shipping, snails sometimes go into a hibernation-like state and may not become fully active for up to a week once acclimated to your aquarium.

Everything was packaged well. Got a 3 pack of 2 different snails and they sent an extra for each. Snails and plants all came in very healthy. Snails were active right away and have been doing really well.

Yellow Pumpkin Nerite Snails are beautiful! One arrived dying and didn’t make it, but the 3 I ordered are doing great! They are very small, I’d say the size of a pencil eraser. I’m enjoying watching them grow! They took about a day and half of rest, then got busy eating algae with my other two Nerite snails.

My snails were doing great when they arrived and then I assumed they went into hibernation when they weren't moving around anymore. After massaging with customer support (Jenna is awesome!), I was sent a very detailed explanation of how to tell if the snails were actually hibernating or dead and how I can improve my water parameters for future snails. Unfortunately my snails were not hibernating and were actually dead, so they gave me options for reimbursement. I will definitely always use Flip Aquatics for future aquarium needs! I love how knowledgeable they are and willing to share that wisdom! They truly have a passion for what they do and I'm absolutely thrilled with my cherry shrimp & otocinclus I also got in the same order!
