Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum) is a floating plant that is equally suitable for both open aquariums and aquariums with a cover. Amazon Frogbit has large bright green leaves and long finely branched roots, the Frogbit not only provides excellent protection for young fish but is also an eye-catcher in any aquarium. Many well-known ornamental fish such as barbs, tetras, and egg-laying toothcarps love Frogbit as an ideal spawning substrate. Here the eggs can develop in peace, and the young fry are protected from predators.
As far as floating plants go, Amazon Frogbit is an excellent plant for both beginner and more experienced aquarists. Frogbit's main requirement is sufficient light to grow optimally, which generally isn't difficult to achieve with floating plants.
Amazon Frogbit is quite fast-growing. As a result, Frogbit consumes excess nutrients and prevents excessive algae development. Furthermore, the shade provided by the large leaves of the Amazon Frogbit contributes considerably to keeping algae in the aquarium in check. Although Frogbit reproduces quite rapidly through the numerous offshoots that appear, excess specimens of Frogbit can be easily removed.
Frogbit is very tolerant of water temperature and grows well in the range of 62 to even 95°F. Soft to medium-hard water is favorable. Good growth is supported by intensive lighting and high humidity. When the water level is low, Amazon Frogbit develops particularly well, because the roots are able to reach the substrate. Under favorable conditions, Frogbit multiplies quite quickly and form a dense floating plant cover, the extent of which can be regulated very easily by collecting excess plants.
I didn’t get a ton of Frogbit and a couple of leaves yellowed when I first placed them in the tank. I removed those leaves and now, a couple of weeks later, I have what appears to be, three healthy plants! They have roots 6” or longer and one is growing a baby. I used the shrimp safe fertilizer that I purchased from your company and the water spangles look great too! Actually all the plants look good! (Aside from the Pearl weed, which I somehow managed to kill!) I’m not new to the aquarium hobby, I’ve raised mostly cichlids and goldfish in the past but they don’t do well with plants at all. So I was excited to see what would happen with aquatic plants and so far, I’m delighted! Would recommend!

Arrived well packaged and healthy. Beautiful Amazon frogbit with super long roots. Looks great in my tank and the fish love it. Always an amazing experience buying from Flip Aquatics. One of the few places I will order fish or pants from online. My plants always do amazing from here. And the fish do as well.
Supposedly floating plants don’t ship well, but I wouldn’t know. The Amazon Frogbit from Flip is doing amazingly. It arrived with 4’ long roots! Those were trimmed to about 4”.
I did spend about 40 minutes picking all the duckweed off of them, then they went into reverse respiration for 12 hours. Well worth it!
Over two weeks later, I’ve got 3 baby frogbits on runners, and trimmed the roots again today.
I purchased some Amazon Frogbit and I could not be happier. The plants arrived quickly and in good shape. Now, almost 2 weeks later, it has really taken off and is beautiful, healthy and growing like a weed! Thanks Flip Aquatics. I will definitely order from you again.
