 Yoyo Loach

Looking for unusual aquarium janitors that double as fascinating fish? Enter Botia lohachata, the captivating yo-yo loach. These tropical freshwater fish feature slender brown bodies marked by a splash of lighter cream color resembling a yo-yo. Their crown jewel is an extended spinal cord protrusion gracing their forehead when relaxed.

In the wild, these bottom dwellers thrive in schools navigating riverbeds for small food morsels. At up to 6 inches long, groups of yo-yo loaches bring engaging activity to community tanks. Whether patrolling decor for leftover bits, darting about showing off streamlined forms or playfully interacting with tankmates, they live up to the busy loach reputation.

Yo-yos enjoy heavily planted aquascapes with rocks, driftwood and darker substrates supporting their shy personalities and replicating their natural terrain. Keep them in 3+ groups. Offer protein-rich foods along with vegetables to satisfy omnivorous appetites and maintain vigor.

    Wild little dudes

Went to my local LFS for Kuhlis, they didn't have any but the guy told me "yoyo loaches are pretty much the same" and so I asked how many I should get. He said one was fine. Come to find out they're social little critters so I had to get him a friend and since I was *not* going back to that store (several reasons) I decided to add one to my Flip order. They're so wild in the tank! All fish arrived alive and very carefully packaged. The OG loach is happy to have a friend and they are happily crunching my pest snails up together. I didn't think I'd like the yoyos, but they've grown on me. Will be ordering from Flip again in the future!

    Beautiful and Healthy Yo-Yo’s

These fish are absolutely stunning. I am so glad I ordered them. I have 6 of them. They go all over the place exploring and looking for food. I bought them to help take care of my pest snail problem. I haven’t seen them try to eat any yet, but I haven’t had them long either. They are babies so I get to watch them grow and mature. I highly recommend theses beauties.

    Love my zig zag loach

Not only is he beautiful but he is funny. He has a cave he hides in, but sometimes he likes to surf the air bubbles in the back of the tank.

    Caution to snail lovers

I have owned this species in the past and sell them at the store I work at. If you love snails, you will hate these, they are ravenous snail eaters and will happily decimate a snail population and can easily exceed 3” in size. They are also more aggressive than this lets on as I have kept them with African cichlids and they easily outmatched them any time the cichlids tried to get uppity.
