Odessa Barbs are one of the most colorful barbs in the aquarium hobby. Males develop bright red and black stripes as they mature, while females stay more silver and plain. The fish we sell are young adults, usually around 6 months old, so their full colors will show as they reach 10–12 months of age.
Barbs are known for being active and sometimes nippy. Odessa Barbs are less aggressive than Tiger Barbs, but we don’t recommend keeping them with very small fish. They are strong eaters and will quickly go after most foods. At the size we sell (about 2–3 inches), they are already larger than many of the fish we carry.
We feed them a mix of NorthFin foods, with Nano Bits as a favorite. They also enjoy frozen foods, and we occasionally give them live daphnia as a treat and to support digestion.
