Glossostigma

Glossostigma(Glossostigma elatinoides) is a very small, lawn-forming aquarium plant with crawling shoots and spatula-shaped leaves, which is wildly popular in Japanese-styled aquaria. The Glossostigmaleaves have a distinct midrib, while the veins of the leaves are fan-shaped, similar to the leaves of the ginkgo tree. Despite their size, these plants shouldn't be underestimated, as they do require adequate care to grow properly.

For whom is the Glossostigma suited?

While the Glossostigma certainly isn't the most challenging aquarium plant to grow, it does require a certain level of care that beginners may not be able to offer it. To grow well, it requires sufficient amounts of light, CO2, as well as trace elements which can be supplemented through fertilizers. It is easy to recognize whether the Glossostigma is getting enough light: At insufficient levels, the plant will start to gain height, while with sufficient levels, it will begin to cover the floor of your tank rather quickly.

What are they like?

These small plants will, under the right conditions, form a beautiful green lawn at the bottom of your aquarium, which is precisely why they are so popular. They make for a lovely decorative addition to your tank, and they are especially popular among hobbyists who keep freshwater shrimp.

The ideal conditions for the Glossostigma

As previously mentioned, the Glossostigma requires a lot of intense light to thrive, as well as adequate CO2 and trace elements. They grow best in waters that as slightly acidic, and have a wide temperature tolerance from 4 °C – 30 °C. The hardness of the water doesn't matter for the growth of these green beauties.

Not bad!

It's doing OK so far in my tank. I have it floating so it can be close to light and CO2. It came in with not a whole lot of root structure, but the leaves look healthy and it was a fair portion for the price. Recommend giving it a shot
