Bolivian Ram Cichlids are such cool little fish! These guys have beautiful golden-brown bodies, flashes of blue in their fins, and touches of red that really stand out once they settle into an aquarium. If you're looking for a peaceful cichlid with a ton of personality, Bolivian Rams are definitely worth checking out!
Unlike some of the more aggressive cichlids in the hobby, Bolivian Rams are relatively peaceful and make a great addition to established community aquariums. They spend a lot of time exploring the bottom of the tank, sifting through sand, and looking for little snacks. They're honestly so fun to watch because they always seem to be investigating something!
Bolivian Rams typically reach around 3 inches and can live 4-6 years with proper care. They appreciate a planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots, smooth sand, and peaceful tank mates. While they're generally easygoing, they can become territorial when breeding, which is something to keep in mind if you're planning a community tank.
Like other ram cichlids, Bolivian Rams do best in stable, established aquariums. We recommend keeping them in warm, clean water with plenty of cover and open areas along the bottom where they can naturally explore.
Bolivian Ram Cichlids are omnivores and do best with a varied diet. These guys love their protein-rich foods, but it's important to offer a good mix to keep them healthy!
We feed our Bolivian Rams a combination of frozen and live foods, including daphnia, baby brine shrimp, cyclops, bloodworms, and live blackworms. We also supplement their diet with high-quality NorthFin fish foods.
Since Bolivian Rams spend so much time exploring the bottom of the aquarium, we recommend making sure food reaches them instead of letting faster fish eat everything first.
