Bamboo Shrimp scientifically known as Atyopsis moluccensis is a freshwater species native to West Africa and South America. They are found in freshwater streams and rivers. These shrimp are unique in the fact that they are filter feeders. They have long claspers that catch food particles in the water currents. We feed these shrimp a rotation of Shrimp King Atyopsis, Glasgarten Bacter AE, and Glasgarten Betaglucan. You can also take pellet foods and grind them to a fine powder for feeding.
Bamboo shrimp are non-aggressive and work well in community tanks, providing that they have cover to hide in after molting. They can be kept with other invertebrates and non-aggressive fish. We recommend keeping them with nano-fish species such as small danios, rasboras, and tetras. These shrimp grow to six inches in length and come in a variety of colors including red, brown, green, creamy white, and blue. Throughout the year, they can change colors in congruence with breeding seasons.
Ideal tank conditions should provide a moderate water current for the shrimp to feed in. We keep our Fan shrimp on pool-filtered sand in a tank with a Matten Filter. The flow from the filter is adjusted to have a moderate flow. We provide driftwood and Indian almond leaves for resting on and cover. Fan shrimp make a great addition to any community tank and will provide a topic of conversation in your aquarium.
You will receive one (1) Bamboo Fan Shrimp, and the shrimp you will receive will be juvenile to adult, ranging in size from one to four inches. They will be healthy and guaranteed alive.
My son has wanted one of these bamboo shrimp for some time. Flips is out go to, much better quality than our lfs. He settled right in and we see him hanging out on the filter all the time.
All my marine Biology Students love the Bamboo shrimp. What a wonderful addition to our classroom! They are so complex and so small, but they are a real marvel.
Shrimp are beautiful, maybe wrap the spider wood itself next time? It poked their bag open and most of the water leaked out, but they were alright once in the tank.
Arrived healthy and active, they continue to thrive and are a great addition to my shrimp tank.
