The Sunset Thick Lipped Gourami (Colisa labiosa) is a peaceful, hardy fish from southern Myanmar. Like other gouramis, it has a labyrinth organ that lets it breathe air at the surface. It stays relatively small, reaching about 3.5 to 4 inches as an adult. This fish gets its “sunset” name from its golden-orange body and yellow fin edges that resemble a sunset.
The Sunset Thicklip Gourami is generally peaceful. Adult males may show some territorial behavior toward other male gouramis, but they usually coexist in a roomy, planted tank. They rarely show aggression toward other tankmates, which makes them a good fit for community aquariums. They prefer slow-moving water, so a sponge filter or matten filter works well.
