Lava rock in general is one of the best rocks to use in a shrimp tank. Lava rock is extremely porous which provides tons of surface area to grow biofilm and beneficial bacteria. Lava rock will create natural feeding grounds for shrimp and especially baby shrimp.
Black carved lava rock is ideal for an aquarium because it adds character. The holes add depth to the aquarium and provide natural decoration to include in any aquascape.
Our large black carved lava rock is around 5-6 inches per piece. These are great pieces for a shrimp tank.
Key Benefits
For best results we recommend rinsing rocks before addition to an aquarium. Although all pieces are cleaned, it is natural for rock to create additional dust during shipping.
You will receive one (1) hand selected piece of carved lava rock. Each piece is inspected and packaged with care to help protect the character of each rock.
*Each piece is different. The stones you receive will not be identical to the product pictures although are accurate examples of what you will receive.*
Literally! My shrimp love it! If they aren’t deep in their pilo moss jungle then they are in this rock. They have plenty of plants and another lava rock cave but this one here is the one they prefer. The glue that was used to put the tag on it was annoying to take off but luckily that side went nicely facing down. Haha don’t judge, i know it looks messy but I gave my shrimp a wild jungle side for them and a nice aesthetic side for me and they easily cross over from one side to the next.
Wanted some inert rock work for my shrip/fish tank. This fit the bill. My Stiphodon Goby has claimed it as his castle.
Always loved the lava rocks y'all have. Got this one for my mother's shrimp tank and it's perfect.
This lava rock is black, porous, and unique. My large sized rock came in about 4-5 inches wide and 3-4 inches tall (eyeball estimates), and took a while for it to sink. Make sure to boil it for a long time! I did mine for 10-15 minutes but I probably should have done about 30 minutes to an hour.
Took away a star because the rock was glued to something with a strong adhesive and it left a white clump of glue stuck on the rock after prying apart the two objects. The glue is very hard to get off and I had to resort to covering it up with a piece of java fern root glued to the white spot, in order to cover it up.
However, for the price, you can buy a similar piece of rock at another place.
Overall, an outstanding piece of rock, but can be found cheaper at other locations. 4/5 stars.
I had hoped to use this stone as a central piece to a 4gal cube fish tank and this rock was significantly smaller than advertised. Hopefully I can find a different application.
