Ludwigia repens is a fast growing stem plant that ranges in color from deep red to olive green. Given proper lighting, this plant will grow rather quickly. Other common names for Ludwigia repens are red leaf ludwigia, red repens, or the creeping primrose willow. With a nutrient rich substrate, proper light and trimming, this plant will not disappoint in either color or in growth.
For whom is Ludwigia repens suited?
The Ludwigia repensis native to the United States and some parts of Mexico. It is forgiving when it comes to water conditions, making it suitable for beginners and experts alike. While it is not needed, added co2 and the addition of an aquarium fertilizer will created the ideal conditions for growth. To achieve red color in the leaves, high light and added iron is needed.
The ideal conditions for Ludwigia repens
As mentioned before, Ludwigia repens is rather forgiving and great for beginners. The ideal pH is between 6.0 and 7.0. The supplementation of iron and other trace elements is recommended for the best growth and color. As for lighting, this plant needs a lot of it to achieve it's best coloration. In areas with a lot of shade, the leaves with be less compact and display more of an olive green color. It grows best in soft water and thrives at a temperature between 72 – 78 °F.
