The Bluefin Notho, scientifically known as Nothobranchius rachovii is a colorful freshwater fish that's native to East Africa. Males have deep orange to crimson bodies with vertical striping that looks almost painted on. Their fins are a bright, metallic blue with sharp edges that look like they glow under aquarium lighting. They have expressive eyes, and a confident, alert posture. For such a small fish, they are incredibly bold, flashy, and unmistakably killifish!
Females are more subtle in appearance, typically tan to light brown with soft patterning. This contrast makes the males stand out even more in the aquarium! As an annual species, Bluefin Nothos usually live 12-18 months. They grow quickly, color up fast, and are surprisingly hardy when provided with proper nutrition.
