Threadfin Rainbowfish are an amazing addition to any planted aquarium. This rainbow is very distinguishable from other rainbowfish due to their long feather like extensions displayed on the males in the species. Males will display green, red, and blue body coloration in the right lighting, this color can extend into its long fins. As the adults get larger the colors can become even more vibrant. This species does well in schools of 6 or more but can be bred in groups of 3 in some cases.
Unlike most rainbowfish it is better to keep these in tanks with lower flow/turbulence.
This species is very community friendly and can even be housed with adult shrimp species if grown up in the same tank. You will still need to watch for aggression if keeping with large adult shrimp. We still recommend you keep shrimp separate from this species to eliminate risks. These rainbowfish will max out around 2.5 inches in size.
The scientific name for the Threadfin Rainbow is Iriatherina werneri
We feed our Threadfin Rainbowfish a mix of frozen foods, live baby brine shrimp, and flake foods.
Our Tank Parameters
I've only had my threadfins for a week but so far they are doing great! They arrived healthy despite the stress from shipping. They were packaged very well.
Arrived alive and healthy. They’ve doubled in size and look good. Definitely will order again! I’d like to know if they have a shop that I could visit.
When the Threadfin Rainbows arrived they looked good, but a bit plain. Once they were in my tank overnight their color really came out and they are pretty and very active. I've had them over a week now and they are doing great.
I have ordered these from other places and they have never come in so colorful. They even included a few extra just in case. Everyone survived transit and they have been thriving in my tank for a few weeks now. Will definitely use Flip again!
