The black Mystery snail is yet another beautiful snail from the Ampullariidae family. While it has a black body, the snails shell is actually brownish in color with black stripe. Mystery snails have become a huge part of Flip Aquatics due to their many benefits for breeding and keeping shrimp. The following reasons are why we have found these snails to be a crucial part of our shrimp tanks:
Mystery snails are from the genus Ampullariidae. They originate from South America and are extremely peaceful. In a shrimp tank, they are the gentile giant. The only downside to mystery snails is that their main diet in the wild is from feeding on dying vegetation. This means that mystery snails will not eat healthy plants. They will feed on dying plants or leaves that have fallen off the plant. These snails will thrive off of leaf matter. The snail feces is believed to be beneficial to shrimp and their overall health. There are over 120 species of snails with the Ampullariidae family.
Please note: During shipping, snails sometimes go into a hibernation-like state and may not become fully active for up to a week once acclimated to your aquarium.
Ordered 1, got 2 black mystery snails, both pretty coated in algae but that was a big hit with my shrimp. The snails moved around slowly and cautiously the first couple days, but were soon zooming everywhere with antennae out and looking really healthy. It's been a few weeks and they're still doing great.
Had a great experience getting these guys. Were very well packaged and safe for the snails, they were all healthy and active as soon as I unboxed them. One is a bit sluggish but nothing I didn't expect with shipping imports, the rest are very active and healthy.
All of the snails arrived in excellent health, packaged superbly and better than I expected. SO HAPPY!! I’ll be ordering again in the future.
I'd been looking for black snails at local fish stores with no luck so I was happy to see them available through Flip. Snails arrived happy and healthy. I've had them in their tank for three days and the snails are all doing well. Very pleased.
