The Albino Senegal Bichir is a color variation of the Cuvier Bichir also known as Polypterus senegalas. The Albino Senegal Bichir is a usually slow-moving fish that enjoys scavenging along the bottom of an aquarium. They will reach a max size of around 14 inches, which is smaller than most Bichirs.
The Albino Senegal Bichir has a great white to pink coloration that is sure to stand out on any dark substrate. They prefer a sand substrate as they enjoy scavenging for food. The fish has a pair of primitive lungs instead of swim bladders, which allow periodic air to rush from the surface of the water. In the aquarium, Bichirs can be seen dashing toward the surface for this purpose.
Predatory, but generally not aggressive towards tankmates too big to be considered a meal. The Albino Senegal Bichir should not be kept with overly aggressive fish which may nip at their fins.
We feed our Bichir species a large variety of foods which include Northfin flake foods, Northfin pellets (veggie, community, & bug pro), frozen foods, and occasionally blackworms.
